Venus Williams is one victory away from reaching the 2010 US Open final for the first time since 2002. The No. 3-seeded Williams overcame nine double-faults and beat reigning French Open champion Francesca Schiavone 7-6 (5), 6-4 in the quarterfinals Tuesday night.

2 Comments » The No. 3-seeded Williams got through a tougher-than-expected test and beat the 16th-seeded Peer 7-6 (3), 6-3 Sunday in Arthur Ashe Stadium to reach the 2010 US Open quarterfinals for the 10th time. It was their sixth head-to-match, fourth this year alone, and Williams has won every time in straight sets.

Nadal has won all his matches in straight sets, but this was the first time he didn’t need any tiebreakers. Nadal has not had his serve broken at the Open.
